What does StonePeak Matte look like?
It's a soft light grey with an LRV of 48%, so from the street it reads as pale rather than dark. The matte texture keeps it from looking shiny, which suits a contemporary house with timber or dark cladding.
Why a lighter roof runs cooler
A higher TSR means the roof reflects more of the sun's heat and takes in less. At 53%, StonePeak Matte reflects far more than FlaxPod Matte (20%) or TidalDrift Matte (29%), and roughly double a charcoal like Grey Friars (26%).
That makes it worth a look for sunny sites, though it's no substitute for ceiling insulation.
The catch: rural colour rules
The alpine look has a twist in alpine country. In Queenstown Lakes District Council's Rural Residential and Rural Lifestyle zones, roofs must have an LRV of no more than 20%, and going over needs a restricted discretionary resource consent. With an LRV of 48%, StonePeak Matte wouldn't meet that rule without one.
Other districts set their own rules, so read the district plan if you're rural or in a special character area.

Our view
If you want a matte roof and your district allows a lighter colour, StonePeak is the one we'd choose for comfort. Check the rules first, then live with a sample for a few days. Find My Roofer has no affiliation with New Zealand Steel. When you're set, tell us your suburb and the job, and one checked roofer will be in touch.
