What is Find My Roofer?
A referral service. We don't quote, we don't do roofing work, and we'll never be competing with you for a job.
Homeowners come to us when they want a roofer to look at something. Checked roofers who cover their area see the job, and whoever takes it first is the one who calls them.
How does a job reach you?
The homeowner describes the job
They pick what's going on (a leak or damage, painting or moss treatment, a re-roof, spouting or downpipes, an inspection, or something else) and what the roof is: iron or longrun, decramastic, concrete or clay tile, membrane such as butynol, or not sure.
They leave details and agree to one roofer
Postcode, first name, email and phone number, plus a tick saying they're happy for those details to go to one local roofer about this job. Mobile numbers are checked as real before any roofer sees the job.
Local roofers see the job
Checked roofers covering that area see what the job is, plus the homeowner's first name and suburb. The phone number and email stay hidden at this stage. If nobody takes the job within 48 hours, roofers elsewhere in the region may see it too.
The first to take it makes contact
Whoever takes the job first gets the homeowner's first name, mobile, email and job details, and gets in touch to arrange a look and a quote. From there it's your conversation, your quote and your customer.
What do we check before you get jobs?
- Your licence on the public LBP register, if you want restricted building work such as a consented re-roof
- That the licence is current, covers the work, and which areas of practice it lists
- Your public liability insurance, which needs at least $2 million of cover, seen before your first job
- The postcodes you cover, and the jobs and roof types you take on
- For each kind of job you want, photos plus an address or invoice for three jobs of that type from the last 12 months
- Rechecks: your LBP status every three months where your work needs one, a new insurance certificate each time yours renews, and a fresh look straight away if a complaint comes in
Do you have to be an LBP?
Only for the work that legally needs one. Restricted building work must be carried out or supervised by a Licensed Building Practitioner licensed for that kind of work, and roofing on a home's structure or weathertight shell counts when it needs a building consent.
Plenty of roofing jobs usually sit outside that, like moss treatment, roof painting, spouting cleans and most small repairs. Roofers without a licence can still apply for jobs like those. Restricted work only ever goes to roofers licensed for it.
Why does the homeowner's consent matter to you?
Under the Privacy Act 2020, a business can pass someone's personal information to another business only on certain grounds, such as that being one of the reasons it was collected, or the person authorising it. Our form asks for that authorisation in plain words, for one roofer and one job.
So your first contact is with someone who asked for a roofer and knows a roofer is getting their details. How leads work shows the exact wording they agree to, and each job carries a record of it alongside the time they sent the form.
What we'd do in your boots
Before signing up with any source of work, us included, we'd work out what a won job is worth to you. Then we'd run it for a month, note which jobs you quoted and which you won, and keep it only if the sums stack up.
